Dolly's Pedaler's Rest

BIKE TRAILS

If you enjoy biking, you'll love Dolly's Pedalers Rest! There are five trails within close proximity, including the Elroy-Sparta Trail, which goes right past us!

Considered the first rails-to-trails conversion in the United States, the Elroy-Sparta State Trail remains one of the most popular trails in the country. With three rock tunnels and five small towns along its 32.5-mile route, the trail is a favorite Wisconsin bicycling destination. Traveling between Sparta and Elroy, the trail stretches through the communities of Norwalk, Wilson and Kendall, passing by wetlands, prairies, farmland and unglaciated areas. The restored railroad depot in Kendall serves as trail headquarters and has a railroad museum with photos and artifacts on display. Bicycles are available for rent at the Kendall Depot.

Wetlands, wildlife, sandstone bluffs, rolling croplands and pastures are just a few of the sights you can enjoy on the 22-mile "400 State Trail" as it repeatedly crisscrosses the Baraboo River between Elroy and Reedsburg. Another feature of the 400 Trail is a 7-mile horse trail which parallels the trail between Wonewoc and La Valle.

Scenery and history abound on the 21.5-mile La Crosse River State Trail. This trail is a connecting link between the Elroy-Sparta State Trail and the Great River State Trail. Recreationalists have approximately 75 miles of biking and hiking between Elroy and Perot State Park near Trempealeau.

The 24-mile Great River State Trail travels through prairies and backwaters of the upper Mississippi River valley. The trail is in Wisconsin's scenic Coulee Region, part of the Driftless Area that was untouched by glaciers during the last Ice Age. The Great River State Trail also is part of the Mississippi River Trail, a designated bicycle route that travels from the headwaters of the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico.

The Omaha Bike Trail, a 12.5-mile trail which opened in 1992 between Elroy and Camp Douglas, is a peaceful and secluded trail that follows the abandoned Chicago & Northwestern Railroad bed.
